A Book Trailer and a Reading

Shortly after I saw the video trailer for Mr. Hands by Gary Braunbeck, I received some e-mail announcing a trailer for Tom Piccirilli’s suspense book with just a touch of horror called The Midnight Road. Imagine my surprise when I realized that the male lead voice sounded just like author Gary Braunbeck. The female role, I think, is voiced by his wife, author Lucy A Snyder. Check it out for yourself. It really is an excellent video.

From the moment he saw the girl in the snowstorm, Flynn had less than an hour to live. But he’ll remember his last fifty minutes long after he’s dead. As an investigator for Suffolk County Child Protective Services, Flynn has seen more than his share of misery, but nothing could prepare him for the nightmare inside the Shepards’ million-dollar Long Island home. In less than an hour, that nightmare will send him plunging into a frozen harbor — and awaken him to a reality even more terrifying.

They’ve nicknamed Flynn “The Miracle Man” because few have ever been resuscitated after being dead so long. But a determined homicide detective and a beautiful, inquisitive reporter have questions about what really happened at the Shepard house — and why the people around Flynn are suddenly being murdered. Flynn has questions of his own, especially when one of the victims dies while handing him a note: THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT. Flynn has returned from the Midnight Road — and someone wants to send him back.

The dead have come back to life and the world as we know it has come to an end. A lone talk-radio DJ is trapped in his broadcast booth, low on food and water, and dangling at the end of his sanity. All he has left is the sound of his own voice and the fading hope that there’s actually someone still alive out there to hear him . . .

From the Undead Rat:
This is the only zombie novel Mr. Braunbeck has written to date and they are not like any zombie you’ve ever encountered. In a delightful twist, he has crafted a zombie unlike the shambling George Romero zombies of old or the fast intelligent zombies of Brian Keene. Gary Braunbeck’s zombies are hideous and seductive, dangerous and frighteningly alluring at the same time. Want another clue? Take a closer look at the Chad Savage artwork on the cover.
