Since its beginning . . . or at least for as long as I can remember which, admittedly, tends to sputter out quickly beyond the last 7 days . . . the Horror Mall has featured listing of the last month’s bestselling eBooks, books and preordered books. You can find it on the left hand side bar when you scroll down a bit.
It’s a great resource but it’s only a list with one book cover and no descriptions. Still, it struck me that this would be a great bit of information to feature on my blog in my usual format. I made sure it was okay with Mr. Staley and so, without further ado, here is the first installment.

Was he lost? Hurt? But when the doors are locked from the inside and a gun is set on the dashboard, David realizes this was no mistake. And that was when the insanity started . . . |

HereticsAuthor: Gifune, Greg F. |
Heretics is a 38,000 word novella originally published by Delirium Books in 2001. It remains a very hard to find edition, originally only produced as a 50-copy hardcover and 250-copy trade paperback run. Now the novella has been reprinted as a digital edition so that a wider audience can experience what many insiders state is classic Gifune! From the original introduction (which has not been reprinted with this edition), Brian Hopkins stated: “Heretics is a coming home story. It’s all about redemption and resolution, about facing the demons that took you from the people and places you once loved. It’s also about alienation, but whereas most writers would have overdone that element of the story, Greg is smart and talented enough to let it work on its own. We see — and more importantly we understand — how Harry, Rip, and Madeline are made the outcasts of Virtue. Ten thousand words telling us this would have failed, but a handful of careful observations and character reflections bring it home with stark clarity. Greg knows his characters and, in turn, so do we.” |

Something happened to Michael’s wife. One night he returned home to find her the shell of the woman she once was. He found no explanations; she had no memories of what had taken place. Michael fears something sinister is behind this profound change in the woman he loves, but no longer seems to know. As she wanders the streets at night, Michael gets the help of a medium to find out the evil behind this metamorphosis. What they discover are the ushers of darkness. |

PrimitiveAuthor: Gonzalez, J. F. |
It began as just another day for David Spires and his wife Tracy: coffee, breakfast, and getting the kids ready for school. Then the bottom dropped out of civilization. The world ends not with a bang or a whimper, but with a dizzying downward spiral. Instead of the rat race of commuters scurrying to beat the clock, humans are now packs of animals reduced to snarling primitives. David, Tracy and their daughter Emily, along with fellow survivors, leave Los Angeles for the safety of the country where fewer people means fewer primitives. But as they venture farther away from the city, they realize an unnatural force is at work. Civilization didn’t just fall apart . . . it was overtaken by an ancient evil that was present before the first cave paintings. Human history has no formal record of it, but the dark presence that’s fueled nightmares since time began has crept out of the shadows . . . and its influence is growing. |
