Five Horror Novels in One: The Essential World of Darkness

by The Undead Rat on September 26, 2009

This weekend’s anthology spotlight illuminates The World of Darkness horror novels.

Founded in 1991, White Wolf Publishing launched one of the most successful role-playing games called Vampire: The Masquerade, based on a set of rules called the Storyteller System which emphasized the story over game mechanics.

Set in The World of Darkness, a “modern gothic” world where everything is just like our world, except that, just under the surface, lies the vampires, werewolves, mages, wraiths and changelings among other “monsters” of old.

The players got to play a vampire or werewolf or one of the other creatures struggling to survive against their own hostile communities with an approaching apocalypse on the horizon.

Supporting the line of games were novels and short story collections that were generally a notch above the average RPG novel. Here is a collection of five novels — each one representing one of the game lines set in The World of Darkness.
