This entry is part 3 in the series Monthly Book Cover Spotlight: 2010

This month’s Book Cover Spotlight falls on the cover of exceedingly rare horror chapbook by Kealan Patrick Burke called Seldom Seen in August.

I would have coveted this chapbook because it was written by Ohio author Kealan Patric Burke, but the cover absolutely blew me away.

I am the oldest of four children — two of them girls — so broken dolls were never rare in my parents’ home. In fact, one of the favored dolls to last well beyond the damaged stage was a small thing we called Baby Doll Mouse. I have no idea how it got that name.

So imagine how startled I was when I saw the cover to Seldom Seen in August and there — staring out of a monitor at me — was armless Baby Doll Mouse!

Of course, that wasn’t actually Baby Doll Mouse, but an image generic enough to look like it and thousands of other dolls manufactured over the years. Nonetheless, it “got” me. Startled me. Called my attention to it.

And I can’t get it out of my mind.

For weeks I returned to the White Noise Press website to see it again and again.

I nearly lost out on getting my own copy of Seldom Seen in August and it has since been sold out for quite some time.

However, you have a chance to get a signed limited lettered hardcover edition copy from the Horror Mall. Just click on the book cover above to get your copy now.

Oh yeah, the story’s a killer, too

Wade Crawford is not a good guy.

He’s a bank robber and a ruthless killer, and now three people are dead and Wade is on the run. With the cops hot on his heels, he breaks into a seemingly ordinary house in a seemingly ordinary neighborhood to hide and wait on word from his partner.

But this neighborhood is far from ordinary.

Indeed it has a very specific purpose, and soon Wade will discover that life in prison would be preferable to the hellish torment Seldom Seen has in store for him.
