Things Change . . . And Then They Eat You

by The Undead Rat on October 18, 2007

My original plan for the blog part of this website was to make a post on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The Sunday post would be a round-up of interesting websites for the week. It was a beautiful, elegant schedule and it stunk like rotten eggs.

What Went Wrong?

Twice I was unable to maintain the schedule. The first time was when my wife’s computer died a horrible death and she had to take over mine until we got a new one. The second time it failed was this weekend when I got a nasty sick headache and missed Sunday and Monday’s posts.

Life happens. I have a full time job and a full time family and I’m trying to squeeze this project of mine in the cracks. I’m passionate about this website but I can’t keep the old schedule. Things will happen that will make me miss a day or days or weeks.

I am also the only one working on this website. I soar without a net — or in this case without back-up. If I can’t make a post, there is no one to write it for me.

Furthermore, I discovered a flaw in The Rats Week in Review. Waiting until Sunday meant missing out on posting about items I’d just found out about that were going to occur before the weekend. To be specific, I learned about a video chat with Michael Arnzen and a chat with Brian Keene too late to post about it in a Sunday Rat’s Week in Review. In slavish adherence to the schedule I didn’t post anything and that was wrong. Timeliness became an issue.

I’m Changing the Way I Do Things

I basically want to get rid of the schedule. I’ll post as soon as I get something written and I may make more than one post a day. It could be on any day of the week. I will still try to have at least four posts a week.

Rats Week in Review is gone and in its place is Rat’s News. Rats News will cover anything news worthy in the world of horror fiction as soon as I learn about it. No waiting until Sunday. I’ll assign each post with the Rats News category tag. To see all of the news posts, just click on Rats News on the category section in the left hand side of the website.

The hope is that is by taking off the pressure of a demanding schedule; I’ll actually get more work done on the website and increase its value and usefulness for all.
