I would be remiss if I did not mention that this week (Sept. 29- Oct. 6) is Banned Books Week. The ALA (American Library Association) may be working with your local library to display banned books and educate the public on the evils of censorship.
Please support the people on the front lines in the fight against censorship
However, now they’re reaching into cyberspace to connect with people who love reading. The ALA’s own Office for Intellectual Freedom along with other sponsoring organizations have set up a presence in Second Life, Teen Second Life, Facebook, MySpace and Flickr.
Please consider visiting some of these sites and support the people on the front lines in the fight against censorship.
And for a smile, check out this comic strip Unshelved.

Greetings from the Dungeon Dimensions – the Undead and the Magical rule the world. Of course. Keep up the Good Work (in all senses of that phrase).
Hello Magical Rat,
Well we could rule the world if I could ever entice the Magical Rat into creating a website similar to my own but dedicated to the fantasy genre.
You can even use my templates.
What say you, O Fearless One?
Hail, O Deathless One (or maybe I should make that O Reanimated One). The idea is very intriguing, but alas, I haven’t quite mastered the art of stretching time into 48 hour days. However, I can tuck the idea into the back of my head for future reference – and will tell you that I am giving serious thought to coming up with Why Fantasy Matters talk (or some such thing) to see if I can offer it at a library conference somewhere. I really liked doing the early morning talk The Tourist’s Guide to Narnia, Hogwarts, and Middle-Earth when we were at Taylor Road, and thought I could expand on that.
Thanks for your encouragement (it’s not everyone who can boast that they get moral support from the Undead).
Fair enough, Magical Rat.
Let me know if there is anyway I may be of help in shaping your talk. Mayhap I can be of help in yon endeavor. Possibly even develop a Why Horror Matters talk to be offered as a companion piece?
–The Undead Rat
